Google cancels event in China it had never planned to have

This one practically writes itself. Well, I guess it already has.

AllThingsD broke the story that Google planned to cancel an event it was planning in Beijing for the Nexus One. Or rather, wasn’t planning. No such event ever existed in any capacity.

D (or CNET, one or the other) corrected the error, which came courtesy of an equally erroneous Reuters report.

Well done, fellas.

MCV retracts Take-Two layoff bullshit three hours after posting

The U.K.-based MCV, a publication that covers the video game business, retracted its anonymously-sourced (“MCV sources” — that’s descriptive) story claiming that “Grand Theft Auto” distributor Take-Two Interactive would slash 20% of its staff.

This kind of shit sinks stocks. Sure enough, Take-Two tanked in after-hours trading and into today — after spiking on Wednesday. Continue reading
